Language Factory works with both NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) practitioners and individuals with an interest in bilingual community work, cross-cultural communication, interpreting and translation work.
As a first step, we encourage you to read our information flyer to familiarise yourself with Language Factory.
If you are fluent in a first language (especially those from the African continent), have competent English spoken and reading skills, and have an interest in community language services and community development, we encourage to contact us as soon as possible to find out more about how Language Factory and you can work together.
Significantly, Language Factory has worked with skilled public housing residents to interpret for some community sessions and translate community-related documentation.
Language Factory's social outcomes revolve around partnering with residents of public housing and other individuals by channeling their linguistic and community-related skills and providing a pathway to interpreting, translation, and bilingual community worker employment opportunities.
Language Factory hopes in turn to develop a language service pool to the changing needs and demography of the Australian culturally and linguistically diverse society.
We understand that committing to a future in interpreting and translation is a big step and we hope to make your decision easier by our ability to guide you and connect you with various fee-free workshops and other training that provide insight into interpreting and translation work.
While we think you will find interpreting and translations in a community setting to be a rewarding if challenging profession, we are able to provide you with information and make relevant connections with people who may be able to provide other employment pathways.
NAATI Practitioners wishing to work with Language Factory can go to the How To Apply section to begin the process.
For some clients, we understand that NAATI accreditation is the minimum qualification benchmark for interpreters and translators that they wish to work with. In such instances, we make connecting client agencies with a pool of highly qualified and experienced interpreters and translators our core service.
These professionals are chosen based on their level of commitment to and understanding of community development. We also look to educate the interpreters and translators that we connect with your organisation and its community services so they are able to deliver their services to suit your clients' needs.
In languages where Professional level accreditation is not available, Paraprofessional accreditation ('Level 2') is also engaged. Where no NAATI accreditation at any level is available, Language Factory will look at other education and experience in the applicant's background to assess their suitability to provide service to our clients.
Please note that while you are welcomed as a new contractor with the respect due to a professional, you will be closely monitored for quality control based on client feedback.
